right now i have the baby silver in a 55 till hes big enough for a 200 oscar tank. is it unusual for small silvers(6") to stay in a small space, ive noticed it is in front of the power filter. he is eating well and looks good. i do a 10% water change every couple of days and it has a lot of filtration. if i wanted more movement should i ditch the powerfilter?

IME aros dont like much water movement. you should do a little bigger water change or just do them more often. aros need pristine water conditions. when my aro was a baby...1.5" she would always swim in the same 6x6 in area of the tank. now she roams the tank as if she owns it.
For a young arowana to feel comfort in some place at the top of the tank is pretty common. He may feel safe there. I've seen this in a couple of my arowanas. Unfortunatly, he may stay there for quite a while. Maybe months, till he becomes more comfortable and decides its safe to move around. What do you have in the 55 with him? Eventually, though, he will grow out of this. This you can be sure of.
Whats the best type of filtration for arowanas? I use Hang on the back filters in my other tanks... But I want to use canister in my 180 and 300 when I get it. Since they need calm water, I just want to know what Brand and type would be best for an arowana for its whole life?

I wouldn't say they need calm water. I like the rena xp series. I have 2 rena xp4's canister filters on my 180. I think for a 300 the same two would do fine. If your patient, you can get them brand new on ebay for a little over $100 a piece. Retail they are about $400. I've had power heads with arows in the 80's, it didn't bother either one of them. That tank was a 240gallon.
Thanks, I was just wondering because if they require slow-moving water I was worried they wouldnt do well with rays because rays like fast moving well airated water.
