most of them come from the wild dude.

I heard most are being farm raised now. I keep hearing that low fat diet can help prevent drop ey, but I'm not too sure if that's true.

your fish supplier should know if they're farm raised or wild caught, hey! Blacks are coming into Season too ya know, they are a little more docile so the masters tell me, I've only had Silvers. And Aros ROCK!

Actually all silver arowanas here in the states are "wild caught"...... even the one coming from asia...... which are sent there at a very small size to be "grown out"...... Captive breeding has been producing minimal numbers in the past few years but still not enough to compete with the "wild" ones coming out of SA.......

perhaps these "captive bred" silvers will be less prone to eye drop.......

meilings aro came from a breeder in florida

and it didnt aquire drop eye

perhaps it is indeed the captive bred arowana that is less prone

this however is just a single fish, even if it didnt aquire drop eye doesnt mean that captives dont get it.

Are black arowanas a better beginner aro than the silver?

I will say silver will be a better choice for begineer compared to black aro.;)

don't think you'd go wrong with silvers or black. they are nice fishes and not so aggresive too. drop eyes are unpredictable so there's no way of determining them. however protuding lower jaw could be spooted quite easily.

important thing is to get a silver/black that's outgoing. if it stays in corner......best not to get it as it might have been spooked and you'd probably have problem trying to introduct it into your tank later. :)
