Aro rubbing face against glass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a 250 gallon and my puffer that is 10 inches does that about 3 times a week for about 3 hours, my stc does that everynight constantly. I dont really think it is tank size. It may be the fish are not happy. I heard fish in a round tank do that all the time. It may be psychosis. Seriously, something is not making them happy and they can injur themselves doing it by constantly rubbing. It may be a nervous twitch thing. I have fish that will not leave the bubble wand. I try to provide everything possible to make their stay as comfortable as possible but you cant please all the fish all the time. Just my thoughts.

My aro is in a 140 so that could be part of it, also he was fighting a bit with my clown knife a bit and was pretty stressed, they've all calmed down quite a bit and dont seem to be fighting anymore. Also water quality is fine so its probably he wants a bigger tank or may have a parasite but i think thats just kinda his personality. He was doing it when he was in his smaller tank and probably will keep doing it nomatter how big a tank he gets.

My RTG always rub against the glass. One of the reason why I picked him.
Always doing his dragon dance. Depends how your's rubbing on the glass.
Might be a problem with the water like others said.

try putting large plants on the ends of the tank

My arro does that when I feed the cichlid tank right next to his tank but this makes me worried that something else might be wrong with mine. My water parameters are awsome and he is only a 7in in a 180 gallon with 2 discus and a motoro for company.

think this is more of a habbit then anything else. mine sometimes does this too but only when it's begging for food. :screwy:

have seen aros that constantly do that till they develop unsightly growths.

mine has always liked to rub, he even likes belly rubs. His water parameters are fine when he does it, try a bubble wand or bubble curtain, mine goes nuts and begs for it. He does not overdo any part of it, he seems to me to enjoy "feeling" but I am no expert, but in my tank, it seems normal.
