My jardini does this as well makes me very angry from Time to time coz be loses scales he is only 7inches people say they grow out of it. I have 8 loaches in with him and they are all mates(for now) haha.

When my silver was about that size he would freak out occasionally jumping and hitting the top of the tank.. He mostly did this at night.. Based on my one silver.. I'd say it is a phase.. O yeah.. Start planning a bigger tank if you plan to keep him longer

I just picked up a 7" Silver for my 180, and he's the only fish in the tank. I bought him from a Petco because it looked like he wasn't getting the care he deserved: fins all messed up, slight DE in his right eye. But at least in the pet store he was relatively calm.

Now, when I come home he hides from me like I beat him or something. I'm trying not to stress him out any further, but he also hasn't eaten in 2 days. Its making me really nervous. He looks really miserable, and I'm not sure why.

I do hope this is just a phase. I'm not sure if it's the new home or just a phase all young silvers go through.

Lower the water level to 6 inches. Turn off all the lights

Do you mean I should lower the water lever BY 6" or should I remove enough water to leave the fish in only 6" deep water?

Either way, I'm just curious; Why does lowering the water level have a calming effect on these fish?

Lowered water level 6 inch mean, 6 inches from top of tank to water line

Not all the way down only 6 inches deep of water! Lol

I have no idea, did some research & people say it keeps it calm that way. Aros r all surface swimmers and i guess they need that space to relax & not feel cluster-phobic maybe?!?! Some even say also people like a floating plant to also make it calmer in conjunction with lowering water level

My aro would get head injuries left & right b4 with topped off tank and at least w/ this gap i have, it gives him that 6 inch safety even if he does spaz out n jump
