Aro Tank Aquascaping

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
in my tank i used to have some play sand in there but i went black barebottom, its way better!! also i have a floating plant that imo helps out alot. get a plant and detach the bottom so it floats around so your aro feels way more secure.

Having kept "REX", a silver arowana, from yolk sac till he outgrew my tank at a little better than 18" (he is now in a 300 at my local fish store) I would recommend against placing anything hard-edged or sharp, i.e., driftwood, sticks, rocks, decorations, etc. Aro's are violent when they feed and will injure themselves on such objects. I would recommend smooth rock, gravel and plants at the lower levels, but keep the mid and upper regions clear unless you want to use some floating plants at the surface. Also make sure the top is well covered and weighted. You would be surprised at how forcefully they jump and how small an opening they can get thru. Finding your prize fish flopping on the floor isn't a sight you will enjoy. Good luck and enjoy your monster fish.

i would keep it as simple as possible. no decor.. when doin water changes, the water level gets lower right, so easily for the aro to swim into if it gets spooked. just my honest opinion.

your tank, your aro, do what allows u to sleep at nite. and enjoy the hobby, cheese!

Your planted set up is amazing! I have a 150 I am setting up and I am gonna go the same route, plants and little driftwood so as the aro grows larger it will have its swimming space and if spooked won't knock into the driftwood.

Will post pics soon , Temporary aquascape as to Aro's size for now I opted for manzanita driftwood and river rocks for my aquascape
