k got the pond all lined up, now im working on the stocking list that im looking for. I was thinking this its going to be around 200 gallons so something like a male black nasty and a male dovii or male umbee. Then add 10 jack dempseys mostly for target fish.

a dovii will most likely kill everything if your gonna do a dovii just go solo

i was thinking of doing a dovii, but i mean in that pond thing i want fore than one, heres what i was thinking pluss i get get all of them localy
1x RD/Midas
2x Jags
6x Jack Dempsey
1x Pleco

Would the Jags and the RD kill da jacks/

thats awfully small for 2 jags, a midas, and 6 jack dempseys. you would have to grow out the jacks, or they wouldnt stand a chance. i would say 1 jag, and 1 midas. if the jags were to pair up they would wind up killing everything, kinda like the dovii would. how thick is your liner? pleco could very well pop it.

i would go with a pair jags and 6 JD's with lots of hiding places.

okay im dropping the pleco i forgot they are pretty spiny, so its either going to be 2 RD's wich are more common at my LFS, or if i find them 2 Jags. Then im going to add three large pieces of driftwood in the middle, then 10 or so tara cota pots to go around kinda towards the outside, im using filter sand for substrate so how much do you think i would need? 50 lbs?

i have 50lbs in the bottom of my 90 gal aquarium. just get a 50lb bag, put it in, if you want more get more, just kind of work your way up, dont dive in head first then wish you had less.

4' around? in a circle? how deep?

I have a 6’ round 300 gal Rubbermaid Stock Tank that I’ve used as an indoor Cichlid pond for years. The viewing angle takes some getting used to and the evaporation needs to be planned for, but otherwise it’s been an awesome experience. I’d do it again in a heart beat…

FYI – I have been using a BioForce 2000 pressurized pond filter @ 1800 gph w/ a makeshift UGJ system. This does fine for bio but leaves some footwork for me when it comes to mechanical. When I added a second pump/UGJ it stayed nice and clean.

I personally think a 4’ round 200 gal tank is not big enough for a Dovii and another large Cichlid.

I also think that using Convicts or W African Jewels as ‘Dithers” would work much better than Dempseys. The trick to using Cichlids as Dithers is to make a lot of small crevices where the Dither-Cichlid fits that the Wet Pet-Cichlid does not.

In conclusion… I would buy one Dovi and one pair of Convicts. Put them together in the pond and within 6 months you’ll have a nice group of fish that can coexist nicely (unless you ask the juvi Cons that become food).
