Mata mata's inhale their fish. Wouldn't any fish significantly larger than its mouth be safe?

Not really...turtles have been known to take chunks out of fish.

Imagine a fish larger than the turtle but with a chunk of its stomach missing!

A mata mata is not your typical turtle. If you've seen one up close you'll know why. They don't have the powerful jaws that a lot of turtles have. That's why they inhale their prey.

One of my mata matas is 35 pounds. She's eaten 16" bass with no problems. And, she's fed large panfish (9-12") on a regular basis.
:D

the turtle in the video posted is a fly river turtle i kept one for 2yrs when i had a brake from rays

i kept mine with an asian aro who used to keep it in his place once the aro was removed the fly river started to kill fish for fun they are real sly the sneak up on fish the bang snap i had to remove a scarlet pleco from his mouth a few time

easy rules to stick to turtles and fish dont mix

fly river turtles get massive they also live for more than 50yrs (so make sure you kidds will look after it when you are gone)

they are also banned for sale now but im not sure if they are CITIES yet
