Arowana barbel. what they really do?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my aro took a dive at a fish, missed, kicked up the sand and "ate" its own barbels. they were tucked in his mouth for almost the whole day until i fed before sleep when he opened his mouth again and they popped back out. kinda like when dogs flip their ears inside out.

as for spelling, as long as we get what you mean, its completely fine. i only hate when there is no way to understand what somebody wrote at all and everything is gibberish or highly dyslexic.

THE SOLUTION TO THIS? Read what you typed before you post out loud. (if you have been accused of typing incomprehensibly). if it sounds like its clear enough info that could be used as instructions to deactivate a bomb safely then hit "submit" or "post"

Hey man, great thread...I've often wondered the same thing about my aro's barbels. I think its all about feeling the waters surface for food

by the way...please don't worry about your spelling. eveyone knows what you are saying despite the 1% of the US population that is A-hole enough to call out little things like that.

they use it too sense there food in murky water or if there blind or like when u put them in pure darkness there barbs will grow longer too sense there food easier

Hao, I've also heard about aros barbels growing longer in a dark tank. Has you silvers barbels grown any since going blind?

This is just the type post you get from someone who really has nothing to offer.

Not sure as to the exact reason for the barbels, I'm sure it;s to detect movement on the surface. Barbels usually will grow back often times they will be deformed though.

I agree with Bderick67. Mine lost both her barbels and it looks like it started growing back but never continued. Makes her look like she has a little goatie!

As for their function. When she had both barbels, and something out of the ordinary would be on the surface like a leave she would touch it with her barbels first before takin ga test bite!
