arowana beat up by oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just use a coloured divider in your tank. Seperate the oscars and the aro and it will be fine. When the aro is much bigger and you feel that it can fence for itself, just remove the divider and re-introduce them together.

i did a 50% water change and added aquarium salt, for the hell of it i threw in some baby crickets, right away the arowana chomped them down. im relived its eating. i did some extra research on the tea cup rays and i realized there not for me. im gonna purchase the albino oscars as babies. in a year i'll be ready for a new tank, si dios querres... lol
thanks again guys for all the advice.

Good that it is eating that is number one sign of seeing it heading for a healthy recovering.

Just be aware that average growth of silver aros is 1-1.5" per month and even upto 3" per month is not unheard of. Most likely your going to need to be moving to a bigger tank sooner then what you think.

Good luck with your aro, you'd also be smart to keep it without any other tankmates for awhile so it can get healthy and gain some size. Personally I would recommend mixing the aro with cichlids until the aro is about 10" and then the cichlids should only be half the length of the arowana. This is the safest method, but it is your fish and only you can decide how risky you want to be with it.

well of course if u use to much salt it will hurt them but if u use it how its supposed to be its fine. i use salt in my oscar and pacu tank they tend to pick on each other and the oscar gets his lip ripped every time i put salt in and in 2 days time its pretty much healed

also glad he started to eat just keep the stress level on him low for a bit i know what ur goin through i had 3 oscars beat up my clown knife that is 8in to their 4 in

sorry to hear you had to get rid of your oscars..

I have a albino oscar and a silver in my 125. I bought them about 9 months ago when they were both about 5 inches. They got along fine...

now the oscar is about a foot, and my silver is about 17". Well, one night I noticed my oscar was pushing my silver into the glass and attacking him...I called my girlfriend in (its her oscar) and said look at what your fish is doing...

next thing I know, My Arowana snapped. He had the oscars whole head in his mouth and was just holding my oscar there. I jumped up and spooked my aro and he let go, but I could see the oscars skull from removed flesh...The oscar is so dumb he went right back to attacking the arowana so I separated them. The oscar is now living his live in a measly 55 gallon.
