good link. thanks. that link talks about a natural spawn, in big tanks under the right conditions.
the author has explained what happened there atleast. silvers arent so hard, and babies are cheap.
there are ussually differences in breeding cues leading up to a spawn from specie to species. i imagine that people have kept silvers and blacks in outdoor ponds in fish farms and yet we do not hear about a cross.
you would also think that seeing as people have these two species in community tanks that someone would have noticed mating behaviour even if it was just the early signs.
maybe it is possible and its not happened because of the work involved.
one day, scientists might find out and locate which genes are diverged to the point to stop the crossing in fishes with eggs mixed with milt. i havent even seen work done toward explaining how many years diverged a species needs to be before its unlikley to cross naturally vs in bowls. i think atleast one of the species has had DNA mapping work done.
