Agreed, I have 4 silvers (all still small, at about 12-15") in a 8x2x2...only have a few other smaller fishes in with them atm and they're okay. However, if I were to set out to build a 'lifetime' tank for them, it would be no smaller than 10x3x3.

Also, a river-tank style setup where you have a strong current moving from one end to the other goes a long way in simulating the supposed "endless tank" and keeps them exercised. Just make sure there are at least some pockets where the water slows down and they can rest.

Thanks! As of now I have convinced my parents to build me a 10x3x2!:D The project should get going around next week. It will basically be an outdoor tank made out of cement with a glass in the front panel. I'm also planning on adding black tile on the walls and bottom of the tank...
What'd you guys think?

sounds going to be a great pond+viewing window.
make sure you figure out a way of preventing the aros from jumping out of it.

I'm going to my LFS to ask them to make me a strong cover for the tank tomorrow:popcorn:
I find preventing Algae to be a much greater problem than finding a cover though...Right now i've thought of a cloth canopy and a few UV clarifier's. Trust me, the sun down here gets pretty strong and that can never be a good thing when you're having an outdoor tank :(

would adding some aquatic plants to use up nutrients before algae does help????
see what the guys in the pond section have to say about algae control.
