Arowana drop eyes and food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i'm no aro expert but with them being in a tank and constantly swimming in circles what else are they suppose to look at? in teh wild they alwyas look up because thats where their food source is, in teh aquarium theyre swimming back and forth and especially if they have botttom dwelling tank mates and having nothing to look at on the top in an aquarium but a lid

Inferring from pond and aquarium debate I always wanted to house an aro in a paludarium with lot of interesting vegetation up top. don't have the space to do this currently though.

A friend has an aro in his koi pond . its about 22" now and no drop eye so far.

Right no way to stop drop eye 100%

Just a few things you can try to help

All this things I have done with all 20+ of my aros silver black and Asian aro
I'm not saying it will stop it 100% but just a way to cut down the risk

Have substrate in the tank no bare bottom

Feed only live insects as this is what they will eat in the wild no salt foods

Keep the water level high to cut down the risk of jumping

Keep the temp high 84 or above

Now get ready for people to say that won't help I am only stating what has worked for me

If you want an aro with no dropeye just get a wild one

That is no sure thing
I think it's the tank environment and food that causes drop eye not the breeding unless the captive bred silvers have a tiny gene pool which I don't think
