Just an update, after trying all the suggestions I ended up having to trim the fins off with a sharp pair of scissors to get them to grow in right. It actually wasn't too stressful for either one of us. I just kept my hands wet and held him with the net, The tail and bottom fins responded very well, I had to cut some twice. It's dorsal fin has not responded as nicely.
