Arowana Has Back Problems?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well hopeful it recovers, maybe yours is a result of the ammonia in your tank and it is just showing up now, IDK.

With mine when I adopted it it had been raised in a 90 48x18" tank until it was 21". the poor aro didn't even swim, just sat stationary:( The tank also had a 12" electric cat and a huge pleco in it. With only a UG filter for filtration. I just concluded that the deformation in the aro was from either too small a tank or bad water quality. Then having it in a 180g with pristine water it recovered, and had no sign of the deformity after 3 months.

I'd suspect a swim bladder issue, but it could also be an injury to it's spine from hitting the lids.

It swims like this all the time or occasionally? And it just started one day?

I have a 16" black that does the same thing.

It's only sometimes. And he's skittish and bashes the lids all the time.

It occasionally freaks me out, usually when he's lower in the tank. But he is fine other times, eats well, and is generally OK otherwise. I'd just keep the water clean and keep an eye on him... which is just what I'm doing.

my buddies started to do that it was in a 125 but had a divider in it which only gave him 4 ft or so to swim... when he moved him out to his 280 the aro looks great now... with 3 of them it might be time to upgrade
