i'm new to this. but my arowana has been with me for about a month now. He was for a time scratching his body beside the pump and glass and noticed a string beside him. he developed a slight scratch /cloudy streak on his left eye too.

After a water change, string was gone, 2 days after, i added rid all because i suspect parasites. He stopped itching and cloudy streak was gone too. added vitamins and stress zyme also because my nitrites have been 5ppm for 3 weeks.

arowana started swimming normally and eating 4-7 SW for 5 consecutive days

*after one week

tried feeding him shrimps again. he ate one but didnt eat SW after

i prep my water for water change..tested the tank water and got 5ppm again for nitrite....last night nitire went down to 0 ppm.

water parameters are ok. arwoana did not eat shrimp and worm...he justs swims at the right side of the tank were there are many air bubbles comming from aerator and the spnge filter.

he doesnt seem sick and water paramters are already ok...what maybe the problem? he just stays there....is he just playing with the bubbles? he did not eat for 3 days now

Thats weird. Mine likes bubbles but it just tries to eat them. I'll do some research.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

hey thanks, its a 9.5" Merlion Green, i wanted an RTG but im afraid it might just die given that its my first time to ever try to take care of an arowana....and if it dies, id just be wasting money.

added 2 clown loaches and 1 albino janitor fish as tank mates, and they seem pretty ok

I hope the 5ppm of nitrite is just a misprint. Do you test for ammonia?

hi derick, yes i tested. Sad to say the previous 5ppm level of Nitrite is not a misprint but its now down to 0ppm

PH 7.2
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 0ppm

I'm using the API master test kit for marine tanks. I just did another water change an hour ago, while test again when i wake up tomorrow morning

My problem now is that it always positions itself on top of the bubbles coming from the spong filter....and it does it in a weird way.......it faces its left gills on top of the bubbles, its as if its aerating itself ...

i find this weird, is it suffocating or mending an itchy gill? a not so good pic below

You need to be testing with a freshwater test kit. How long has your tank been setup?

Mine sits in the bubbles.

If I'm reading this correctly, you've had an aro for one month in a tank that you started 6 weeks ago?

Were your filters matured? If not, you put your aro through the ammonia nitrification cycle. That would explain the presence of nitrites and his current condition. Both ammonia and nitrites will burn the fish's gills, making it harder to breathe properly.

The fact you had 5ppm of nitrites and that you currently have 0 nitrtaes, tells me that you do not have a cycled tank.

Ammonia or nitrite levels above .25ppm are very harmful to your fish.
