Ok my Arowana is 27" and very healthy no drop. eats well and daily-hardly any live feeders.

He normaly is very active and personal comes to the front and tops to feeds-eats out of hand. every now and then he gets moody ( as we call it in the house) and he sometimes shows agression for no know reason.

But last night we I got home from dinner I noticed something on his face when I went to look "HE Freaked OUT". It was a cut-looks as if he hit the top glass and cross bars (Im guessing nuthing in the tank that could cut him and he has yet to have a conflict with tank mates that I have seen)

So I waited-but he never stoped, all night he was freaking out-to the point were you could move in the room with out him jumping-As it got worst the more damage he did! He eventually broke the center glass! cut his face up so bad I almost went to tears-Never had one mark intill last night! Now he is so torn up-and worst proble I can go near the tank due to the fear of him jumping out. So I waited for him to what seemed to be a more calm state and quickly place a piece of Plexi over the center, before i could place the book on he knocked the plexi into the lights- Blew a Bulb. Afterwareds he would sit in the center of tank a violently lash around as if caught on a hook?

As of now-after he drenched the room broke glass and a bulb not to mention tore his face very bad- I have the tank covered with towels trying to prevent him from freaking out!

What am I to do ? And why? he never had a problem with me or the GF befoere-tank in Bedroom so not heavy traffic? i did have a hair cut yesterday, could he not reconize me ? can the reconize you?
Anything i can do to calm him? Has anyone ever had an Aro ever do the same?

what about the cuts they are bad? I treat the water with API Salt, its overfiltered with UV-what else can i do to help that heal-will it scar?

I need any thoughts cause I dont have a clue about this one and out of all my Fish I know him the best! So Im so confused?HELP????

what is the size of the tank? Could be he is feeeling tight.
what tankmates?

as to the wounds, you added salt., should be enough.

and yes they do know us and it could be your haircut spooked it.

I would leave it be, in a darker environment. Not much more you can do that will not stress it further....

keep us posted, please..

LOL...thats what the GF said- Its a good cut, but thought maybe to him. Its like someone else is approching the tank and he dose get nervouse with other people.

he is in 200g right now-he is starting to get tight but still has great movement due to it being wide. He cant get upgraded intill Sept.
tank mates are 16"O',21" clown knife,8"GT 14"X pike,Eletric Blue at 7", and a Peacock Cichlid at 6".

Other then the GT and the Pike who like to fight over a piece of Drift everyone is really chill in the tanks expecally compaired to my other tanks.

i was wondering aswell the other day my Actinics went out so I thre 2 days in which means I have 4x10000K days now-would it be to bright for him? could he be seeing his reflection due to the lights?

thanks for the reply

could be too bright...

and in years of aro's the closest I've seen to the behaviour you described is "tight quarters"....the beast feels cornered....

Awe man....I really hope not, this is such a shame- I move at the end of Augs and my plan was to have the 300g done ready and running by time I moved the tanks about Sept. this way he gose from one right to another....And he was flawless-only to get feel that way 2months 2 soon...

sorry to hear about your aro getting torn up....definitely get some Stress Coat in that tank....

Arows definitly have attitude problems at times.. i don't know if this pertains to you..but i have noticed as the arow gets older i feed less protein to him.. because protein in excess makes nervous energy..so maybe you can see if you feed just a little less protein it will have a calming effect, as it did in my 27 inch silver....another example... i have horses and believe me... too much protein and they were hot.. would not stand still at shows etc.. so you could just give it a try if you notice you have fed him in excess.. i hope he is better for you..they are jumpers and when they get into that frantic stage it takes a while to calm them down..

My aro has jumped before when my son waved a sheet in front of the tank.

He was jumpy for days after that event, I had to keep the lights off in the room to help him calm down but I guess wrapping the tank in towels will do as well.

I have some of that foam pipe insulation cable tied around the centre cross brace and split PVC pipe around all the exposed edges of the side and front braces to prevent impact injuries.

When he calmes down enough to mess around with the tank you might want to add something similar.

I was really thinking about something like that before, guess i never considered it due to the fact this is my 1st and only Aro-who really never went frantic like that before. been times he has gotten tense-due to strangers 2 many ppl around tank or even me wiping the fronts-kinda have to be slow and let him see what your doing and then your good but if you just did it with no worning he'll splash a gallon out the tank.

Considering i wasnt home and when i did get there he was like that, It may be that he was spooked out from something i didnt know of. just very confusing cause i really cant pinpoint the cause.

But Ill 100%deffently be looking in to options ar far as making the tank safer for him and when He dose go in the next tank having that protected to...

thanks everyone for the thoughts....
i didnt think of the protien, he eats a pretty weel diet. love shrimp and gets it 2-3 days out of the week.
