Arowana in 80 gallon growout tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A 9" Arowana is fine in an 18" wide tank for the time being.

You will need to upgrade though, but as you said it's a grow out tank.

Someone just accused me of being cruel for having my 9 inch arowana in an 80 gallon tank. He's got more than enough room. Should i move him into the bigger tanks?

You're not being cruel. The only thing I could think of, is that person must assume you're planning on keeping him in their permanently. 80 gallons, is fine until he reaches about 1.5 feet.

you can keep it in the tank until it's about 16 inches(if it's silver or black). then you'll need a set up for life.

As other said about 18" max in that tank, avarage growthof 1-1.5" per month should give you around 6 months before needing to move. Be aware that it is not uncommon for these fish to have growth spurts of 3" per month. Don't get caught because of this, best to have the new tank ready in 3-4 months.
