If it's small, I'd make sure it's still twice the size of the oscar. The oscar will most likely bully the aro if it's as big or bigger than the aro. Aros are more timid and sensitive when they're small, so be careful.

So, what kind of aro? IMO, you've got a solid 6-8 months in there.... however, plans for a bigger tank, IME rarely actually result in bigger tanks...

Aros are superior jumpers all their lives. It's part of how they feed. I came home to a stiff dry aro on my carpet from a tank that I had a piece of driftwood on the lid. I would not put anymore fish in the tank with the oscars and sevrens.
