Does he eat well?

no he doesnt eat well. i feed him mostly live feeder, glass shrimp and other feeder fish. however, he only eats the ones that are dead, from what i see anyways. and never eats the ones at the top. maybe he hunts at night but i never see him chase down the live ones. and refuses to eats pellet.

Please make your own thread and don't hijack ndkangs'.
Ndk do you have a laminated or painted background on the tank? I noticed that help my aro calm down a little.

hilarious! thanks for that comment.

i have a black laminate background and now i covered both sides. he is still flippin out like crazy. dont know what to do anymore.

Check for stray electrical current, animated objects near tank, lights that might be too bright. These are what come to mind. Does he perk up when the lights go out?

what do u mean by stray electrical current? there are no animated objects by the tank and there is only natural light during the day that comes in although it is not directly against the sunlight. at night i do realize that when the lights are off, he does tend to swim a little bit higher but not all the way to the top.

thanks,

Also sound like a lot of fish for a 150gal tank. Maybe it's a bit crowded.

not really, my dats are only about 3 inches and my catfish is about 3 inches. there is plenty of room.

mights be your dats.

why would u say its my dats? my dats are 3inches long, they hide in the corners all day long and just come out to eat. and plus, dats and aro's do just fine with each other. any logic behind ur answer there buddy?

my aro is 10inches long, doubt he is scared of my dats and sometimes at night, my dats come out and swim along side the aro on the bottom.

You need to stop with the feeders, get him on ghost shrimp and super worms. it won't refuse. You can try pellets another time. Maybe it's just skittish because it's still pretty new to the tank. It's not jumping and thrashing is it?
Change its diet and give it some time. Where are you from in Vietnam?

- Has it been skittish like that since day one, or has it just started recently?
- Size of the other tank mates besides the dats?
- Filtration maintenance details? Where I'm going with this is one of the MFK'ers had the same problem and we couldn't figure out why for a long time until one day we suddenly realized that it was the way he cleaned the filters which caused amonia/nitrite spikes. Just be sure that this is not a similar case.
- IMO, feeding feeder isn't really causing this skittishness. I understand that people in Asia tend to feed live food to their dragons most of the time which is fine, but some blending of pellets/sticks would be better. You can stuff the pellets/sticks in shrimps a couple of days a week or so.

I don't think you're in VN even though your location says so. But lets not go there... :)

so i have been feeding him ghost shrimp but he only eats them if their dead, as if he is afraid to go after the live ones. same goes for the feeders. not so much thrashing, but he darts from one side to another all of a sudden. very jumpy and stays very close to the bottom.

i live in saigon, been here for 5 years now.
