arowana not eating.

i have a 6 inch leichartdi arowana. he ate smelt for a while. then one day he stopped.... and i put him in a 10 gal
and threw in feeders. and still wont eat. hes skinny as hell now.
im thinkn its a parasite? am i right?
how would i fix it? because i dont want him dieing on me.

i would do a salt treatment (1 teaspoon per 5 gal) and increase heat to mid 80's. try crickets or krill. good luck!

i have that in my tank at all times. it didnt help. it ate crickets before and krill and shrimp and liveblack worms and blood worms and earthworms and smelt. but now it wont even eat feeders... and meds they have that kill parasites? which im assuming thats the problem.

It could be that it prefers some food to others. Are there any external signs? Have you tried doing a partial water change?

a WC might help. mine is always very agressive and hungry after WC. Try feeding him some mealworms, my aro and datnoid simply go crazy for these.

well for starters he;'s skinny because he's only six inches, he cant go that long without food
and not lose weight as say an adult.

how long has it been since he stopped eating?

Could be an interal parasite, I had my baby silver aro do the same thing....I tried everything, but tried a internal parasite med and I really think it did the trick! Not sure the name right now but they do make it. I post the name of the product tomarrow. Mine was 4-5 inches and didnt eat for a week, tried everything from 84 degrees, to salt, to putting aloe and garlic juice into tank but thought it was going to die. But that was the last thing I tried and he came right around after that. I am not one to use chemicals but if it's gunna die, dont go all HIPPIE. Its alway the BEST to stay organic but if you got to, try to make your fish make it. Mine did! Doesnt hurt to try.

your aro might be just starving himself. moving him into another environment also wont get his appetite up. it will actually make him not want to eat. try garlic extract. havent used it myself, but ive heard a lot of good stuff about it when your fish dont eat it will enhance his appetite.

if it is an internal parasite... turn heat up and add more salt. since you mentioned that you regularly use salt whatever parasite is attacking your aro will most likely be adapted to the salt level in the water.

highly doubt it is an internal parasite... just on a hunger strike. very common with aros

I realize that it's a hospital tank, but keeping you aro in a 10 gallon is probably not helping matters. Many fish will not eat if stressed and having him in a tank that small is stressful.

yes i understand the 10 gallon isnt the best enviroment. but thats all i can do. the only other 2 tanks i have are both 180 and one is filled with pulchers that try to attack it from time to time and another one is filled with 2 30 inch silvers and a 16 inch ornate bichir that will easily eat it. anyone know the name of the medication. i see poop hanging all the time. but hes relaly skinny and doesnt seem liek hes eating anything still. but the poop?! how is there poop with no food?
