Arowana obsession - one man's story

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I thoroughly enjoyed that, thanks for posting. Go Little Red!

I feel his pain. I know what its like to have an arowana for several years and lose it. Its especially painful when you are trying to make the fishes life better with a new tank and doing everything in your power to make him happy and then something goes sideways. It just seems unfair.

I am wondering if his arro died from new home syndrome or the calming drug he used to transport the fish.

Yea. I don't think its nesessary to sedate a fish to move. But also look how many fish were jammed into that tank. The filter probably went nuts. All kinds of ammonia and nitrate spikes.

Everything in that tank looks awesome.

I agree that the culprit was most likely residue of chemicals from the painting and other work that was going on in the new home,as he suspected.....either way awesome " L"shaped tank and collection with nice big ST's.

No, I don't think his arrows died from ammonia or nitrate spikes, but likely from sensitivity to new home chemicals as his other fish are fine. He is no novice but an experienced fish keepers. Many Asians keep big fish in bare bottom tanks and rely heavily on large and frequent WC, and powerful external filtration. I've seen LFS tanks in Thailand and Hong Kong that have more fish than water yet the fish look healthy.
