Hi new to MFK forums.

After looking at the different variations of arowana i have decided on keeping around 5 crossback golden arowana.
I intend to build an outdoor pond (live in the caribbean, so predators and weather arent much of an issue) and was wondering what the appropriate measurements to house these arowanas permanently . (I was thinking 12 x 12 x 4)
I intend to keep around 5 to 7 arowana. Mostly crossback golden though i may decide to get a red or 2

Not by any means an expert on these keeping these fish so i thought id ask around.

any other tips in regarding to caring for them will always be appreciated.

I would also like to know some possible pond mates that might compliment them

Thanks very much in advance

Your 12×12×4 is fine for a few arowana. Lot's of choices for tank mates. Personally I think rays are great tankmates, but I'm a ray junky! What do you plan for filtration?

dont know for sure yet still have some stuff to research.

do you ever have problems with aggression between rays and arowana?
any particular type of rays to get?

It's best to get your arowana first, get some size on them, and then introduce your rays. There's always the chance you'll have trouble, but many people keep aros and rays together with no problems. It helps that your planning on 4 feet of depth. Aros like the top, and rays tend to spend most of the time on the bottom. I'd suggest any of the black rays (henlei, leopoldi, black diamond, p14) they are hardy, beautiful, and generally pretty available. Not exactly cheap, but neither are asian arowana!
