here fishy fishy
Hello...this question is for all the arowana owners, with 2 aro comms.....

I have a pair of greens in a 180 gallon tank.....1 a 3 year old, that I think is a male....and a 2 year old which I think is a female!

Here is the question.....these two aros do the side by side swim often.....sometimes so close to each other, and in sync.... that at fast glance you think it is only one fish in the tank......

Lately the one that I think is a male, while sync swimming, begins to growl, loud!!!!!

The best I could describe the sound is like a Bull Frog....the sound will last anywhere from 2-6 seconds at a time.....

anyone have experienced this before, with any type of aro?

cheersh

Had 2 great big silvers back in the eighties in a 240gl tank. I experienced many odd things but growling is not one of them. It would be cool if you could somehow record it and post the sound bite.

I have caught him doing it a few times.....I doubt I could catch him in the act, with recorder in hand...lol

He just did it now, thus the post......the first time he did it, I was standing about 5 feet away from the tank, in the hallway......and I thought the same...WTF is that, and came into the room looking for, well I didn't know what...:screwy:

Then I caught them again swimming in sync, side by side.....and the pelican gullet on him vibrating like crazy, :WHOA:

mmmm haven't heard my aro growl.
btw how long have they been together?
if they are just new tankmates. might be they are sizing up each other .
goodluck with yoyur 2 aro comm :) you've got really really nice grens.

Adult asian aros are known to "growl" in some cases. It is said that this is part of the mating ritual. Cases have been heard of lone aros in the tank also making such noises.

Like going up to a chick while drunk saying, "I wanna fuhhh...fuhhh..."

how long have they been in tne same tank is the main ? i think
