I am looking into a new tank (300gal+) for a Silver Arowana (or other) and friends. I am in the beginning stages of research to make this possible.

My first situation is that I bought 5 acres & a modular homes about 3 years ago and and am now getting ready to build a new house on the land. The new tank will be built in the new home. I can not put a tank that big in the "trailer" now as it has a raised foundation not suitable to support that kind of weight. So I have to wait, I am having a hard time with that. So in the mean time I am debating the idea of keeping one in my 150 gal tank that I currently have. But I do not see to much info out there on growth rates. If I purchase one about 2"-6". How long would it take to outgrow the 150 tank? The building should be in place in another 2-3 years. Do I have the time or do I need to suck it up and wait?

My other concern is for the water changes. Most of what I have read tells me to do a 50% water change every week. That just seams a bit much. I have always gone with the mess with it as little as possible method. Do as much as I can in the initial set up to keep from messing with it too much. I have always believed the more you futz, the more that can go wrong. Is there a way to set up to knock that back to say twice a week or once a month, or is that pushing it?

How about a pond on the land?!

Tbh I suggest waiting it out. Also would do 50% or more weekly wc's.
Sorry missed this part. Try 50% a week and if r nitrates are down then ur good. Check ur nitrates and keep below 40ppm. If not then increase.

Yes, I do have a retention pond 20'Lx20'Wx9'D I would like to do some work too. and have already been stocking with Largemouth bass, Channell catfish, and a Pickeral. However I do not believe Florida regulations would allow me to do that with a non-native species in the event of flooding.
The other issue I have with that is neighboring children. They have a tendency when I am not home of steeling my fish. Pond still has not recovered from last time.

Stealing your fish? Wth do they do with a stolen fish? :duh:

lol! I get your thoughts but I live in a semi poverish area. They eat them. All of my fish in my pond are caught locally and most of the people in my area eat them. When they see me loading the pond they see an easy meal and come with nets and all. Being that my pond is not very big the fish have no way to escape. We have actually caught them in the act a few times. I need to put a fence up but that wont be for a while to come, Which is more deterrent than prevention. I am not exactly wealthy either. Although compared to them I make good money. I recon they figure I can just catch more and they think they are not hurting anything. However they kill my plants. muck up my water, tear up my yard and leave trash everywhere when they are done. Of course that costs me time and money to fix.
