Hi guys,

I am really thinking of getting a new fish tank... and i want my prize fish to be a Saratoga Jardini (will buy it small)...

I want to have this stock with my new tank.

1X Saratoga
2X Oscars
2X Clown Loaches (very small still)
2X Jewel Cichlids
1X Pleco (still small)

Now I can chose from the following

4ft Length 2ftWidth 2ft Height or 5X2X2 I can't giv more space in my apartment... If 4x2x2 can handle this i would love to buy it.... And as some of you know from before, I upgrade tanks very often... ill have one of these for maximum of 2-3 years... MAX. Until i find a bigger place...thanks

Good chance the jardini will destroy most the fish you have listed. Clown loaches need be kept is school(5 or more). If you did manage to get the jardini to live peacefully It would be in a 200 plus gallon 72x30x24" tank.

The Pleco, Clown Loaches, and two oscars should be fine in a 4x2.5x2 for 2 years with a jardini? I normally don't keep tanks more than 2 years.... any other additions you would add to this stock with the jardini? Thanks for your input Brian.

No I gave you the tank requirements in my previous post. You can't fit the proper sized tank for a jardini in your room, so best to find another choice that is more suited to your limitations.

Quite interesting, well im learning everyday bro... lets see if anyone else has some ideas of stocking :D, i seen some people here with 5x2x2 with aro and oscar...but nothing else at all...

Brian if you mind just answering another question, keeping an aro in a 4x2.5x2 for two years is not the problem? its just the fish I put with him that might cause him to become aggro, in a tank of that size... did i understand you correctly>

^you might be able to get away with that sized tank for awhile with a jar (if you get it small) since they seem to grow slower then silvers & etc. but a min. tank for a jar fully grown would be around 6x2.5x2 or near which i find to be the bare minimum. i'd say 6x3x2 is better for a bare minimum tank.

^^ Thank you sir, and yes, Im only looking to hold it for 2 years at most... the reason I say this is because I am graduating late next year from University, so will move houses once I graduate... so obviously (even if i did not have a jardini now) id still get a 6ft at least in 2 years time :)

Well ill see what I can do, my stock list is probably going to be

a few clown loaches, 2 oscars, 1 baby jardini... most likely 3-4 inches... and a pleco probably... gonna look quite empty i believe? :p

Im going to go for a 4x2.5x2 ^^ do you know how fast they grow? im going to buy him at 3-4 inches at most... keep this tank for 2 years....

Thread is pointless.
You are asking for advice.
You get correct advice from (IMO) one of the best people to possibly give you advice and you don't like it.
Next person comes along tells you "you might be able to get away with it", and boom your mind is made up!

Fact is IMO, you need to choose something more suitable, and listen to Brian!

The jar will out grow that tank I'n less then a year i just grew a friends that went over seas for school and the tank i had set up were 5x2x3 and they out grew them I'n 10months.
