After some recent requests I have decided to make a quick visual guide to the different arowana species (or variations of such) that you can find on the market. Please not that for Asian arowana there are many varieties and names can vary based on what the farm sells them as. This is intended to be a basic visual guide, nothing more
Silver arowana - Osteoglossum bicirrhosum
Black arowana - Osteoglossum ferreirai
Jardini arowana - Sceleropages jardinii
Leichardti arowana - Sceleropages leichardti
Note the "Spots" on the scales that distinguish it from the Jardini
Myanmar arowana - Sceleropages inscriptus
Asian arowana - Sceleropages sp
(Disclaimer: There are several species and many, many forms so I am lumping them together)
Banjar red:
Red tail gold
Highback gold
Xback (Crossback)
24k xback (24k Crossback)
Blue base xback (Blue base crossback)
Chili/super red:
There are many other types of Asian arowana, those are just a few.
I hope this is useful. Feel free to add if there are more colour forms
