I just picked up a 20 inch arowana for my 225 tank. He was in 125 and is two years old, and fed mostly on feeders. My question is shouldn't he be larger for being two years old, and will being in my larger tank and being on different diet help him catch up, or will he stay on the smaller side? Anyone experience this and what was your outcome? And what's the best food for an arowana? I usually feed my fish smelt, tilapia, cichlid pellets, blood worms, and massivore pellets.

Sounds about right for 2 years old. They grow slowly from about 16" on. It may also have more to do with the fact it was fed low nutrition feeders instead of high nutrition pellets. He may be a little undersized but more likely due to poor diet not tank size.

That's what I was thinking more so on the feeders then the tank, he was the only fish in it so he had room.i know he was in 55 before the 125 but I don't know until how big, what's the best food for an arrow?

I too think it is from poor nutrition. good call strollo22. that seems about the right size for a two year are

I feed my blacks and jardini hikari carnisticks, massivore, tilapia fillets, and peeled market shrimp. Best diet is a varied one.

I will stick with what you said chizzle but Since he's been on feeders for so long, how hard is it to get an arowana to accept different foods.

WHAT!?!??
20" in two years normal? Try 24" in the first year. Growth slows after 16"!?!? Try they hit a growth spurt at 16".

Man....what is mfk coming to. All this "I have read" or I have heard" bs. Try "from my experience".

Op, most likely your arow is stunted, but still be able to get a couple more inches out of him/her. Being stuck in a small tank could decrease the arows life span though. As stated above, pellets and a vary of food is great. In my experience, it won't take long. A week or two weeks tops. Silvers aren't that picky of eaters.

A big fish that likes to eat will be easy to get on pellets. Starve him for a couple of days and drop some pellets in. If he doesn't eat, drop some shrimp in. Do NOT feed live. He can go probably a month without eating at that size buy I doubt it will take longer than 5 days.
