Arowana & sturgeon

I fine it funny to say "that worked good" when the fish are now dead...

I recommend separating them putting tropical species in one tank, and the sturgeon in another before problems start to occure. Considering it couldn't be more then a few months that you've had these fish together in your new setup it's not an example of success it's another example of someone in the process or failure.

Fish are tough it can take them time a long time to die from environmental factors but it will eventually kill them or weaken them to the point that some other issue finishes them off. Species that arn't tropical can often withstand the high temps for some amount of time just like they would survive hot summer months but it'll catch up with them eventually that's why they are not found in tropical waters in the first place!
I kept them with succes for 3 years. The dided all the rest of my fish when my grandmother overfed and when the powe died in the house while I was gone. Have you even tried keeping sturegons?

the sturegons Ive had/have tolerate up to about 28C but I keep them in 23C

23C is too cold for the long term health of your silver.

Hello :) sorry for late reply :S My albinos died unfortunately when the power died in the house :( but my new setup is
600 gallon with mega filtration in the tank I currently have
2x Cichla monoculus wc 35cm
1x Beluga x sterlett sturegon hybrid 80cm/32"
1x Russian sturegon 28cm/12"
1x Fei feng 30cm
4x Gibbiceps 30cm
1x Silver arowana 40cm

They probably died due to the power out and lack of ox in a tank that was to warm

Sturgeon need cold tamp and lots of ox with the higher temp the ox levels are to low in the tank

Tolerating high temps and living in them full time are 2 completely different things.

Since you asked no I have not owned sturgeons, I have kept cold water species and do currently keep several other subtropical species but not sturgeons. I also researched them thoroughly in the past ironically because I really wanted to keep hem in my largest tank in my mix with my Arowana/Dat's/Bichirs but unfortunately there simply no species suitable for tropical setup. I'm not the type of person to buy an animal of any kind if i cannot provide it a proper home for life.

I've heard tons of "success stories" about dead fish that were not cared for properly but did fine and died of other causes lol just because something else killed them before improper care did it makes it a success story, did you ever stop to consider that the weakened state from improper conditions may have played a roll in the deaths ?

I don't bother to get into it on these forums because the type of people who do it either just dont care about their fish or really dont have a clue and just shop forums for posts like yours from other people who dont have a clue to justify their actions. I consider it incredibly irresponsible and quite cruel to intentionally house an animal in improper conditions simply to show them off.

with that said I dont care enough about your fish to beat my head off a keyboard arguing about it, I share information I know when I can to help others in the hobby, those who want to keep fish properly will, those who dont wont, that's not my problem.

I've given my reply to the original post, and nobody has to take my word for it there is a ton of information available on both captive care and native habitats of sturgeon for those who wish to learn. I wont argue over it any further.
