arowana tail bite

My silver arowana bites its tail and it has chopped it into half. Now it has stopped eating for the last 10 days. It is about 1.75 feet long and is a year and half old. Water is clean.

I have even tried deworming and changed the water.My tank is 7 x 2 x2 wide.

Suggestions welcome

if your water is good do you think it would be stressed for some reason,normally i think for all most any animal,fish, reptile ext..that does that theres something stress related going on

There are two potential causes:

1. Bacteria

2. Boredom (lack of tank-mates, or interesting stuff in the tank).

Tail biting can be cause by keeping a aro in a tank to small which sounds like this could be

When a aro turns in a small tank it can see its own tail and thinks it's another aro so attacks

I would have given the same advice 4 years ago put it in a bigger tank 2ft wide is to small for a aro this size
