So you complained about a lot of dirt stuck in your gravel. You have 2 solutions:
1. gravel vacuum + water change (20%) --> once every 2 weeks or so.
2. Remove all the gravel (also known as plane/bare tank) --> still have to do water change. Perhaps once a month or so, depending on how many fishes, how much food, and how big your filter is.
---------------------
The bare minimum to get started:
1. Big fish tank (at least 6x2x2 FT --> For your aro to be extremely happy, I would get 2.5ft wide (distance front to back on tank)
2. 2 good filters for the big tank, 2 incase 1 breaks (Total GPH = tank size in gallon x 10)
3. Strong/thick lid (put sand bags on top of lid) to prevent aro from jumping out.
4. Heater (300w for the big tank)
5. Airpump for oxygen (or you can use a spray bar output to break the surface water --- creating bubbles)
6. Thermometer
7. Testing kit to make sure your water is good
8. Dechlorine (Seachem Prime) so you can add to tap water during water changes. Chlorine kills the beneficial bacteria in your filter
9. Dedication --> so you can feed and do water changes regularly.
