Hello,

I'm in the process of setting up a 300-315 gallon tank and planning on stocking it with 1 silver, 1 super red, 1 24k gold, and 1 chili red arowana. I'm also thinking about putting in a clown knife or two and a leopoldi ray. I already have the silver and think I have a seller lined up for the other arows. But in case that falls through does anyone know where I can acquire the other specimens?

As far as filtration, I'm thinking an ecosystems sump/refugium (deluxe 4216 model) or the next size up (not sure what the model number is on that).

Does anyone have any suggestions on lighting for the tank and how many watts my heaters would need to be to keep the tank inbetween 80-82 degrees? The dimensions would be 92x24x30 (300 gallon) or 92x24x36 (315 gallon).

Any other suggestions on how I could make this tank as awesome as possible are welcomed.

Thanks!

Run a minimum 55g sump filled with bio media. I ran a mag drive 24 pump on my old 300g with a heavy stock. It worked for me. 2 or 3 300 watt heaters hooked to a Ranco temp controller. Make sure you have heavy tops aros will jump And good luck acquiring that list of fish you have if you live in Virginia beach

Thanks for the advice. I've found a breeder who said they can ship them anywhere in the world including the U.S. I've read things on both sides of the coin as to legality of importing them. I may be taking a risk with a substantial amount of money to get them but I love aros so it's worth the risk.

I was more concerned with the length for the aros. they seem to be able to turn themselves around in very tight spaces. It may be a little tight but I think they will do fine.

If you live in the US you gobto jail for importing anything but silvers and jars

and leis. how about making it 36'' wide and 24'' tall instead of 24'' wide and 36'' tall.

and blacks, and africans...

IMO you're pushing it trying to comm arowanas in that size tank, long-term, especially silvers. Go to the arowana forum and have a look at BDerick67's tank, 96x36x30 LxWxH with four SA aros and it looks packed. Pole is right that 36" width will be far more benefit to your fish than the extra height, 2' high isn't ideal but it's a damn sight better than only 2' wide!

For the filter, I have no idea what that sump is like so can't make a recommendation, I prefer custom/DIY to off-the-shelf with sumps.

For the lighting, I use Current Satellite+ LEDs on my tank and am very happy with them, my black looks great.

For the heating, without knowing the temperature of the room your tank is in and how well insulated the tank is no one can tell you how much wattage you'll need to keep it warm.

Ideally you want 36 x 36, you'll need the space if you want 4+ ideally you should be going bigger but... My mate who keeps them always had a 1m x 1m tank and they work great.

Filtration , sump + wave makers or so you want flow to stop gill curl in young ages if it forms when young due to no flow you will struggle to remove it, you also must keep some area on the surface still as arrows will sleep on the top never the base intense flow will stress them if they cant handle it so a bit of adjustment is required.

Lighting make sure you get more of a yellow light if you want the golds and reds to really come out basic white n blues wont do this.

and for heat I know my mates stay @ 30C all year round he actually keeps them outside also as the sunlight he believes is best for the color.

and cover glass must be THICK!!!!! Not sure about mixing, I have seen asains with asains but never silvers > asains or jars with asains etc not worth the risk imo.

I doubt you will be able to important them, id also be cautious who you deal with many people get scammed down here as they think its a legit setup but they never get the fish, I know they are everywhere, banned here too yet if you have the $$ you can get pretty much any type, had a gold offered to me for 35k lol....

I would do a 36 wide but that would require getting a new stand which I was trying to avoid. Thanks everyone for your advice, I obviously have some things to consider before moving forward with this plan.
