I would do a 36 wide but that would require getting a new stand which I was trying to avoid. Thanks everyone for your advice, I obviously have some things to consider before moving forward with this plan.
IMO the cost of a new stand is pittance compared to what you're going to spend buying and maintaining those fish in the long run [provided you can get them]. 24" wide doesn't really cut it for any arowana as a "for life" tank, let along a group of them. As squirtle said, you could quite possibly get your stand widened, though it may be easier/cheaper to sell it and buy/build a new one.
Dude. Before you plan your tank any further do a little research about the fish. Asian aros are illegal in the US. Even if this isn't a scam (it is) you will eventually have them taken away. And destroyed. The FWS watches this site and they will track you down.
