Hi All,

New to the forum - so go easy on me please !!

Along the same lines as the Jardini Tank Mate thread ( whilst very informative, has now scuttled my plans of getting one )....how do Silvers or Blacks go with tank mates.

Intention was to keep one with a couple of Tiger Oscars. Is the end result likely to be the same as if it was a Jardini - or should i have better luck?

Interested in your opinions.

Thanks heaps!

Should also add.....tank size is a 6x2x2....Oscars and Arowana would all be approx 4 -6 inches when introduced.

Thanks again!

i'd go silver but its a personal thing either blk or sil would be a lot more successful with o's... jars just grown too slow.....

....is either a silver or black likely to rip the Oscars to shreds ('cause it sounds like a Jadini would )?

No, most of the time it's only the Jardini's that will try and kill everything. You should be safe with either the Black or the Silver. Make sure neither can fit in the others mouth because if they can they will end up there...LOL

Aros can be very timid and can spook easily i think oscars can work ,if you are into oscars make sure the aro is large. aros are more like gentle giants they wont usually just kill unles the fish is small enough to fit in its mouth . large cichlids like oscars are very active and if they are to large they will stresses the aro,the aro needs to be the boss. You will need a large tank 240g at the minimum and i would go for a silver its a better choice if you are new to aros. No babe aros with Oscars get something at least in the teens.

oscars and silver or black aros usually go well together. the combo could work w/ jardini, too, depending on the jar. you can use more aggressive cichlids, too, but i wouldn't put any semi-aggressive to aggressive cichlids in w/ any aro that's under about 8", maybe 10. the 180 will be good for a couple years, but you're going to have to upgrade.

i would say go with the black aro i kept a Black aro in a 6x2x2ft tank for 7yrs he was looking a bit cramp towards the end but still happy

a silver aro will get way to big for a 6x2x2 and fast + you have a 90% chance of the silver getting drop eye

Sounds like the black may be a better fit ( so to speak )......thanks for your advice guys, it's proven invaluable.

Gotta say, I'm glad I found this site before i got my Jar thoough....so to whom ever started that post below - thanks heaps!
