arowana tank with gravel

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've always had gravel in the past and never used sand as substrate before. Is sand easier to clean since all the "crap" doesn't get in between the rocks like gravel? Also for those that use pythons for cleanup I'd imagine you'd pick up some sand during cleanup.

Also for those using sand, are you using the home depot type or aqarium specific sand? Thanks

I have used all types of substate i think it's personal preference. It also depends on tank mates. If you keep rays with the arowos I would use sand. They tell you to stay away from cilica sand. It can cause minor cuts which could lead to infections. The best and cheapest sand I have found is just your generic pool filter sand, that you can get at your local pool supply store. it's around $10 for a 50 lbs bag. I would just go with something darker in color (not white) to defer from their eyes looking down (a possible cause for drop eye). having bb depending on tank material (especially glass) would reflect the lights to much drawling the arows attention to the bottom.
