?
Hey guys!
I will be getting a new 5x2x2 tank this weekend. Iam wondering how long I have to wait before adding a rtg arowana to the tank.
Tankmates Include 2-3 angelfish until arowana gets biggers.
Now the problem is I have to cycle my fishtank and i dont know how to do it. Ive heard using the filter media from my old tank will work
please dont talk about tanksize for the arowana I got a outdoor pond when he gets bigger.

you've been a member here for over two years and you still don't know how to cycle a tank?

Nope not really. Never bought a brand new tank before. All the ones i bought was preowned.
The only thing i know is keep some cheap feeder fish in the tank about a month and let good bacteria colonize
I came here to learn, instead of killing my fish id like to learn the correct way to cycle a tank

You have the right idea.. using pre-seeded media will jump start your system. If you add enough 'used' media you can start adding fish slowly

Have you got any existing tanks filters setup and running mate ? Like Vincent said use or seeded media and tankwater from other tanks , few feeders it should cycle within couple of weeks safe for your aro , you can always add bottled bacteria to boost the process , keep testing the water too

Vincentwugwg and EVZ you were a great help, Thanks:)
I hve some lod filter media i can use to kick start the tank
the tank is only going to house a rtg so if i use sand as the substrate will it be okay? I dont prefer bare bottom much
so guys should i add the sand as soon as i get the tank or wait till its cycled
