what would be the smallest tank you can keep a silver arowana in for life?

4 feet perharps...bigger the better

You can't keep a fish that will get well over 30" long in a 48" tank for life.

A silver aro should have a tank that has a length at least 3 time the aro's length and a width/depth that is at least equal to it's length.

So figure for a 32" aro you should have a tank with a footprint of 96" x 32". I would say that also the tank should be at least 24" tall.
