Arowana tankmates, aggression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What about bumblebee grouper? Someone is selling a converted bumblebee grouper ( switched to freshwater), and I know nothing about its size and compatibility with arowanas

Does anyone know what tankmates arowana can live with? My arowana is a total *******, killing my peacock bass and Florida gar.

Did I do anything wrong? I know for a fact the two that died are compatible fishes with arowanas. Should I have instead had a group of 3 peacock bass, to spread out the aggression as well? I have seen thousands of tanks where people keep arowanas with peacock bass and gars, why doesn’t mine work?

Now the only top/ mid dwelling fish is my arowana besides my bichirs. I would definitely like another swimming tankmate, is there any recommendations? Where could I improve on?
They were probably to small try a bichir or sun ground level fish sumthing that will never be in his way for to long

bumblebee
? NOPE, STAY AWAY, STAY FAR AWAY FROM THAT FISH.
they tolerate fresh when small, need brackish when mid age and full salt when fully grown.
But I doubt (99%sure) anyone has a full grown grouper at their home .
Start around 5 min mark

If you are planning on building a tank like rod from predatory fins has, not the circular one the large one where he keeps the arapima. Then you may get the grouper and keep him for maybe about 10-12 yrs or more . Plus you'd have to gradually convert the pool into saltwater.
If you get one now, it will most probably either die within maybe 2 yrs if you don't start to gradually increase the salt. And even if you do it'll outgrow the tank . After that if you sell it or give it away it's either gonna get eaten or maybe kept in a small tank and die.

Oh LOL. The guy stated it had converted fully in freshwater. Not sure.

Bumblebee groupers seem like they grow big.

What about apurensis catfish with bichirs? I know they stay at the bottom so the arowana won’t affect.

Won't fit in there for long, imo.
thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter would know better.
I read a thread with thebiggerthebetter commenting, stating it was fine in a 200g and 2ft width. My tank width is 2.5ft, so I think it’s fine, but, I’m not sure about the compatibility with bichirs is the problem..

Apurensis have this tendency where if anything fits in their mouth, it will end up there rather sooner than later.

What is the best shoal for redhooks/ tiger hooks?

I’m thinking of getting a shoal of redhooks and a large datnoid after my house renovation. I think the datnoid may be okay as it’s broad size prevents the arowana from doing much harm
