arowana VERY skittish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok, one more thought.. my arowana and even my peacock bass react strongly when someone wearing red walks past the tanks.

i've even taken to carrying whatever red shirt i'm planning on wearing outside before i put it on because the arowana are in my entry way. they almost don't react at all when i wear blue or black, except of course for greeting me at the glass to see if i have food.

That's interesting, but can fish see colour at all? Even most mammals can't. I can imagine that black and blue are more difficult to see for them, but I don't think they would specifically perceive red. Do they react to all warmer colours, or just red?

Good stuff! Now make sure there's no uneaten food in the tank.
I remove any meat that isn't eaten. No prob.

off the topic,,, i am in love with your set up!!!
Thanks! I'm not quite done yet, though. I'll post a thread once I get my seashells and eels.

Very true, as most owners of silver arowana can confirm. Red, yellow and orange equal bad news.

I have recently gotten a silver arowana which acts almost the same way but doesn't except food. I got him in California and drove to arizona. About a 8 hour trip. He also rests on the ground when they are surface dwellers. Does anyone know what to do and what to feed him as I tried crickets, frozen food as in bloodworms, brine shrimp and I also tried market shrimp. Any ideas? Please write to my blog.

From my experience, garlic seems to help. Crush it with some water and marinate the morsels for half an hour. My arowana accepted food after five days of fasting. I would check water quality first, remove any aggressive tankmates, and wait.

WHEN THEY SEE RED, THEY GO BERSERK LIKE ON NO OTHER OCCASION!
