Most mouthbrooders don't eat while brooding young. Some do, but it's only small meals while the babies are out foraging.

Mouthbrooding fish have an enlarged buccal cavity. It's the part of the throat/mouth right after the lower jaw. The babies are kept there. That's why on mouthbrooding fish with eggs or babies you see the cavity distended.
