im considering buying a silver arowana with the egg sack still on him. iwas just trying to get some care tips if i decide to get one tomorrow. thanks, Matt

I can tell you with recent experience........ don't.. I'm not saying it can't be done but silvers are a sime a dozen at 4" plus. I would start with one this size at least. If possible make sure it is eating before you buy.

if you really want to get one with an eggsack this is what i have done with mine. 20gal tank with a small hob filter best would be a sponge filter. they don't swim well at that size so it may/will rest on the bottom from time to time. have floating plants for cover and resting. offer fd(freeze dryed) bloodworms a little at a time, if it doesn't eat it is fine, the yolk sack will give it all it needs. it will have the yolk sack a week(with the common size yolk sack at the lfs) or a little more depending on the size of the yolk sack, with the most i have seen was 2 weeks. after it starts to loose its yolk sack it will start to feed on small insects, crushed pellets and fd blood worms. DO NOT have it with anything else. it MUST be alone and the water MUST be 100% cycled. any other questions just ask, but you should look at the sticky i redid as it will answer many questions aswell. gl with your disition, but as said it is early and there will be many many silvers availible without eggsacks if you can wait a month or less. be ready for a monster if you do get it.

DONT.DO.IT.

have u had aros before ? if u havent then dont, if u hav then go for it, just make sure the juv is already swimming, keep it in small bare tank, no need filter just WC everyday, no need to feed it until all the egg sack is fully absorb, the rest is commonly the same like bro sbuse said
cheers

Even if you do everything right, be prepared to fail, as failure rate is fairly high at this life stage even for expert keepers.

From my experience I had no decor, gravel, and other fish when I took care of my first silver with the yolk sack still intact. All I had was just two floating plants. When they are young try to start them off with pellets, but it is also good to give them a variety of food.

keep it with small non agressive fish, no current, EXCELLENT water, temp. at 28-29 Celsius, feed it artemia, keep subdued lighting, cover your tank well & keep the water level low...good luck
i agree with the above though...u should purchase them at 4" or over

I just bought a 4 inch silver arowana with the egg sack still intact. They told me at the store not to worry too much if it doesn't eat much at first because the yolk sack will provide the fish with enough nutrients. I also have him in with 2 peacock bass which they told me was ok. Is this true? And if not what can I do to keep him alive and well?
