Arowana with Koi fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hello.. personally.. i would not do it.. koi are cold water fish and aros belong to a tropical group.. their requirements are different.. i have seen setups with koi and other fish but somehow it has never appealed to me..in the sense.. mixing fish from different regions etc.. all the best.. cheers.

While I wouldn't personally mix the species, it's doable. Be cautious to not overstock the pond and ensure you have more than adequate filtration. Koi are very messy fish. How big a pond are you planning?

sturgeons no. They need really low temps... and their life span would probably be shorten by high temps.

I have a friend who's been keeping koi with a silver arowana for about a year now. The only issue she's had is that the arowana is outgrowing the koi very very quickly. The koi don't mind the 80 degree temperatures at all. They seem to grow faster since they tank temp was turned up but they can't keep up with the aro by a long shot. The aro doesn't bother the koi as far as aggression goes, she's nice and peaceful and doesn't bother fish that are small enough for her to eat. We think that she thinks she's a koi. :/ lol

Chaitika has already said. Koi are very, very messy. Take care with water quality.

Second, do not forget that aros JUMP quite frequently ( all of them will jump, at least once in their life; some get hooked to that till the day they die from said jump.)

It is doable, but watch out for the above said.
