I was sitting around this weekend thinking about the pond I was going to start building, and thinking of the fish I could keep in it and Arowana came to mind? Do you all think this is a good idea? I have never dealt with this fish before. I have heard different things about them. Any ideas on what I should do would be really helpfully thanks.

Build big, at least half a meter deep. You don't need to cover it but you need to make sure they can't jump out on to the floor. Glass walls are cool. Have a look in this thread.

That is a really nice setup that is king of the ponds right there. If I can ask how much did it cost for you to build that??? Plus how much would a arowana cost me.

You planning on heating that pond for 9-10 months a year. Arowana are tropical fish and need 80 degree water.

Yea I know that they are tropical fish and it is just an idea. Thats why I am trying to figure out how hard it would be to keep them in the pond.

Can be done but the running costs will be high, whats the temp like year round? Aros can live in water lower than 80 degree, you could go down as low as 70 for spells, but not too long. i don't know the temp where you are.

I stay in south carolina we have hot summers around 90 and above. In the winter its about 30 I would guess. So heaters would not do the job you think?
