Question. My arows (2 silvers and 1 black) and my 2 florida gar absolutely LOVE salmon filets I buy from the market. I cut them into little cubes for them and serve every other day or so. Is this a bad food for them?

It's very good food but not as staple as it's very high in fat. A variety is best, I stick with the following:
35%-Prawns
15% Trout
15% salmon
15% tuna
10% catfish
5% pickerel
5% Superworms

If you can only get them to eat salmon, feed them pink salmon or atlantic it has the lowest fat availible, next to rainbow and steelhead trout.

i heard its to oily for fish.

You're better off feeding your fish a white meat fish instead of red. Like someone else said they are very high in fat/oil and are not as good for your fish. I'm sure it won't hurt to continue just mix it up a little bit.

salmon fillet is good stuff, dunno what you guys are talkin bout :screwy:

salmon is high in protein, low in fat levels and has a high Omega-3 fatty acids content :headbang2

The natural colour of salmon results from carotenoid pigments, largely astaxanthin, in the flesh.

dont make this a staple though.

I wouldn't say it's good if it's the only thing the fish eats. I know if I ate salmon everyday I'd most likely be rather obese or dead.

if i only ate alot of a one thing id be obese or dead as well.

Touche.
I'm not really saying it's BAD for the fish, just probably isn't as good without a varied diet.

you guys compare yourselves to fish to often lol. a fish could live his whole life eating the same thing, he wouldn't know any different anyway. my small aro wont even touch anything but shrimp. wonder how he feels eating shrimp and only shrimp all day every day. doubt he cares.

imma try salmon, looks promising.

The pet food industry loves it when people compare their tastes and diets to their pets...ask yourself why they make pet food visually pleasing to people, with dyes and shapes? $$$$$

In the wild fish are opportunistic they eat whatever gets too close or can fit in their mouths...food pyramid for pets, whose life span is a 1/3 or less of people, ridiculous....fats, starches , proteins one or the other don't make you fat it's total caloric intake. The process of conversion of food(fuel) to energy...too much fuel not enough energy expended = fat....Omega 3 oils in fish diets provide a really high gloss finish to their scales and provides more calories per gram than starches or proteins. That’s why in people fats must be consumed in moderation.

I needed to get that out, thank you for listening, its just that some of the food threads posted make me laugh.......:nilly: :nilly: :nilly:
