behind my iMac.... Southampton UK.
hey guys, just a quick bit of info on artc stocking if you please.....

i'm thinking off picking up a artc around 10" off a friend and before i do wanted to check compatibility issues? i want it for my aro com, ive decided to mix things up and not go pure prehistoric after the disastrous weekend i had.... so i was thinking of trying aro's, gar's, 1 bowfin and artc then maybe a rtc later on? a good friend is moving to france and cant take his fish, so i have the opportunity of getting a 10" artc and he is really gorgeous too! he is fine with aro's and a rtc/tsn that he is in with at the mo.... but will he stay that way? and do you think a bowfin and gars will work with him? he doesn't like cichlids thou, but hes been fine with plecs, big barbs, cats and aros...

He is in with 18" banjar 1.5 which surprise i blaged! and the rtc/tsn thats 15" and has been so for about 5 months? so have all the group of 5 the store got in together? im guessing stunted? are they likely to grow again? store tank was 8x3x2, it was there a month then its been in my friends 8x3x3 for 4 months eating like a pig with no growth? its really odd? could this be one of the ones with the opposite parent combination and going to max around 2-3' or is it going to suddenly start to grow again? i'm very interested as its a gorgeous fish and i would love to take it on as well....

its kinda analogous to the jar in the aro world
Translation: will kill tankmates today or tomorrow or some other day
will work if he stays in his own tank
or maybe you are lucky like me and mine stays with 2 TSNs and a RTCxTSN hybrid

mine is 9" and i have seriously considered trading him in...he is now housed by himself. He fights with anything and everything...he'll fight with bottom dwellers all day long, and all other fish at night when he is active and they arent. IMO Nice cat but not worth the hassle in the end,

Tankmates - No tankmates. This is how photo 1 became photo 2. Mines only 6"

ok thanks guys, ive decided to go with it but its going to get a 4' dia pond for a while then as big as i can in soon as i move i 5 month... tank mate wise, im gona take the rtc/tsn and keep em together, keep growing my 8" rtc until its big enough and then a lil more before i add him and similarly with my gator gar... heading for a 12' dia pond if i can for the gator, and any more i rescue along the way...

ARTC's are still RTC's which means if they can eat it ... they will... the difference is if they Can't Eat it... They will just kill it!!! :irked: I found one here last week but gave it to my brother in law as a b-day present... opps... no more tankmates

I normally don't agree with generalizations, but IMO and IME, ARTC are THE most aggressive and killer fish out there. My friends' ARTC was 9" and killed 2 16" fahaka puffers and a 13" jag :irked:

it's kool i want the artc more than the rtc n rtc/tsn so im willing to take the risk, gator will be 2.5'+ before he joins them.... i may keep throwing the odd cichlid in there to keep him entertained if he likes to mash up cichlids and it helps him be distracted from the cats... hmm... breeding poulation of con's?

gator gars, eh? That's pretty interesting actually. How does a fully armored, robust, aggressive fish go against an ARTC? I am curious, but make sure you are willing to take that loss...either the ARTC or the gator gar
