Artc tankmates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im thinking if it happens, more likely to go in artc's favor. but yes i except that gator could do massive damage too.... the artc likes caves a lot, hence i think it would more likely be a case of gar sits in front of artc's cave, he gets the rite hump and goes at the gars exposed tailend..... but i think there is also a good chance it may work, all the accounts and people i spoke to seem to say that artc's are pretty set in there ways with tankmates by 15"? oh i forgot to update on this: he finally left his cave and swam up to the glass last night. i got an excited phone call at 11.30pm saying you wont guess how big that artc is out the cave? go on i said.... 15" nose to tail. so he should be pretty ok with the two rtc's long as he has caves and room i reckon... anything none cichlid and massive seems to work but i duno.... its a risk... gators worth a try i reckon!

I got one recently, he is... 7"/8" now. Mine is very calm. Hasnt killed anyone sence I got him... Im going to jinx myself on this one, I can see it now.:nilly:

IME I think my m.wyckii was way more worse then my artc. Both are pretty mean, none the less

Its a real tragedy that such a beautiful fish can't be kept with ANY tankmates. There have been a number of members of this site sucessfully keeping them with tankmates...but....that's only been 8-10 inch specimens...I have NEVER seen/heard of a large ARTC living with tankmates.

well, its 15" and ok with a 15" rtc/tsn and a 18" G2 asian aro... thats as is the moment in my friends set up and has been for 5mnths.... only ever snapped at cichlids! tank is 6x3x3 that its in now, and it just chills in and around its cave.... think space and hidding ground have a big part to play like mos fish....

I know Koji has previously kept one in a bare botom aro com with a koi ext: Video i'll see if kjoi will share his accounts of what happened as im not sure....

All the best of luck with keeping it and it not flippin the switch... would be the first one I've heard of thats for sure... Although I think most of us have all heard the "mine is different" statements before but eventually natural instints kick in and then the story changes to .."I THOUGHT mine was different"

Hope yours actually is cause they are AWSOME Fish

i'm not saying it will work, or if it does that it will last forever, but i can hope and if more people dont try u never will find the nice ones that do work... and im sure there are the odd one even if they are rare as rocking horse crap.... but i think given space plenty of space, the right tank mates and more than enough cover it MAY work thou i admit any time u move a fish it can spark a change i think order that fish get introduced play a big role too, if he but that can go both ways too its really 100% down to the fish and luck....

I dunno.... maybe mine is a pussy?:D Mine is hitting 18 inches mark and never did I ever seen it attacking any fish smaller. Most of the time it'll just lay around hidden away at some corner and will seldom come out to "play".:irked:

But as long they're cats, they will swallow anything they can fit into their mouth:D
