i have come across a 2' artc that i would like to give a shot. my rtc is currently 12-13" (havent actually measured but i tend to shoot on the low side) my rtc x tsn is in a grow out till it is atleast 12" about to pick up another rtc x tsn same size and my tsn is trailing ALOT falling in at about 4" barely growing but one day he will pick it up im sure. housing is a 1200 gallon 8'x8'x2'8" indoor pond. there are quite a few dithers also (sa/ca cichlids). i guess the question i want to ask is would you do it?

also soon to be getting an 18" giraffe cat.

It's a huge pond, why not do it.

come on guys 27 views and only 2 responses, atleast hit the poll for me, im really torn up about this decision and i dont know what to do. i have great fish, but i also have alot of room that it might work. do i chance my current great fish to have this brute?

Im gonna say dont try it. After the 10" mark they just go nuts and the fish you have are not worth losing. Especially the giraffe. Those guys are one of the greatest fish to own, and are not aggressive enough to compete with an ARTC.

It's a huge tank guys... Aggression shouldn't be too bad, even if it is bad you can always section off a part for just him. Save the fish man. It is more than likely in horrible condition.

Im gonna disagree with you there. That pond sounds big but he's already got:

RTC
RTCxTSN
TSN

With another hybrid on the way and a giraffe. That pond is gonna get small real fast and none of those have near the problems with aggression that the ARTC has.

I'm all for saving the fish. And i hate to see ARTC in the hands of people who cant take care of them and dont appreciate them, but you have to take into consideration the fish you already have

i am going to say no,
the ARTC is too much of a mean sob to be assumed to play good with all those fish.
the other will not be able to hold their ground against the onslaught of this beast.

My ARTC was able to kill quite a lot of fish when it was growing up, had kept an 8" GT in its place at 6". a 7" pleco was killed by this beast.

As far as i have seen them they have this bad biting problem, they bite and kill anything they don't like.

But a 2 footer is very very difficult to find, so i would grab it and try selling the others off

just a clarification, i dont believe the artc is being ill cared for and to the best of my knowledge it is in superb condition, it actually belongs to someone well known here on mfk.

i just pulled all decor out of the pond yesterday so it is completely open now, and picturing the size of all my fish when full grown i am agreeing with fishlover88. my pond is stocked. no more fish for me. (but i do have an extra liner, pump and plenty of media) hmmm which of my friends needs a pond with a monster cat? i will be posting updates, but as of this point the artc is NOT going into my pond with my fish.
