Im gonna say dont try it. After the 10" mark they just go nuts and the fish you have are not worth losing. Especially the giraffe. Those guys are one of the greatest fish to own, and are not aggressive enough to compete with an ARTC.

That is pretty much exactly what I was going to say. I picked up a giraffe cat and I just adore him. Only a handful of my fish have names, and he had one within two days. Please, please, please!!! do not but that ARTC with the giraffe. ARTC are mean and can take bites out of fish. A giraffe would be instantly killed and you would miss out on owning one of the coolest, friendliest fish ever.

just a clarification, i dont believe the artc is being ill cared for and to the best of my knowledge it is in superb condition, it actually belongs to someone well known here on mfk.

I'm sorry if it came off that that fish was in bad condition. I was just saying that because i've seen many an ARTC come in as trade-in because people didn't understand these beautiful fish.

With a pond that huge and if you keep the ARTC well fed he and have his main cave far from most other fishes he should be preatty mellow, so I say try it.

The ARTC will kill all of your fish, especially at that size even in that sized aquarium. I have only managed to keep large plecs with mine and i will soon remove them as they are getting banged about.
They are a superb and fascinating species to keep, do you not fancy keeping it but getting shot of your other fish??

i think i have convinced my buddy to set up a stock tank in his basement for just the artc. that way i can still get it without chancing it killing my other fish.

if it comes down to it i will build a triple insulated pond for my garage to keep it.

when i was in the pond i got to landscaping what it would be like. if the artc would stay to one side, with what i already have filling in where it fits it wouldn't be able to stay away from everything, they would all be laying around and almost touching at 3-4'. when you think about it, 5-6 catfish 3' long take up alot of space without even moving, when you get them swimming around they will fill that 8x8 like nothing. your looking at 64 square feet with somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 square feet of fish, that doesnt leave much room inbetween them. wish i had a spare 8x4 pond laying around ready for a fish. oh wait i do, i just need room to put it up. ive been trying to convince my wife that a pond on the main floor with a mean ass catfish is exactly what we need, but she aint going for it.
