"Mudfish are known as bowfin down here. us locals call them junk fish so we dont pay attention to them. But they are as legal as it gets in america for a sh :)."

Mudfish aka Bowfins are NOT by any means Snakeheads! Bowfins have a totally different body type and structor than Snakeheads. Bowfins can be found throughout most the US, they have even been reported in the northern parts of NYS waters which freeze over during winter. Bowfins are however are found throughout the US southern United States and have been known on more than a few occasions to break, snap and or bite through fishing hooks. The body of a Bowfin is more like that of a Gar than that of a Snakehead, ie: If one was to run a razor the length of a snakeheads body, one would split it. Not true of a Bowfin, one would require a sharp pair of clippers or shears to just cut through the outter scale/shell. Because the body structor is more of a armor-shell than scales and skin.

Most bowfins max out around 12 lbs, though the State record is somewhere around 18-20 lbs, the norm being at least in FL 7-10 lbs. Bowfins don't really have teeth like those of Snakeheads, but rather they have powerful sharp boney jaws, that allow them to excape hooksets unless those hooks sets are made in the corner of the mouth. Bowfins like the Snakeheads won't except anything but live food or at least moving food items. And while most people believe that Bowfins aka mudfish aren't edible, infact they are. One just needs to know what one is doing and how they are prepared. In most Chinatowns throughout the US, Bowfins are housed alive sold fresh. At least they where two to three years ago in NYC's Chinatown, sorry haven't check recently.

Truely Snakeheads are amongst those of my most favorite of all fish. I have had both Snakeheads and Bowfins in the past. The bowfins I acquired where big beasts at the time I acquired them - 3-5 lbs, because I bought then through the food trade and the Snakeshead ranged from 4"-12" inches depending on if I got then through the pet trade or food trade. The largest Snakehead I had was over 15"-18" inches a Red Snakehead - called The Beast. I acquired her from a store I worked at, at the time she was kept in a 125G tank along with a few other Monsters. The manager ordered a Marbel Sailfin Cat $99.99 saling price - when the Cat was added to the tank The BEAST BIT THE CAT IN HALF:WHOA: AS IT HIT THE WATER, and I was told "Get that thing out of this store or it dies tonight", hehe I took it home.:headbang2

It would be weird to see a vid of a catfish eating a monkey.
