Artificial Insemination

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think it works as well with livebearers since the sperm needs to get inside. With egglayers, you can "milk" the fish for egg and sperm.

all platies, actually on friday i saw some mating behaviors between my male/female painted platies so maybe i wont have to resort to the atrificial insemination anyways. ill know for sure by thursday!!

Lol... one would have to be a terrible fishkeeper to need to resort to artificial insemination of a platy.. or a guppy.. or a convict. Basically all fish that do nothing but eat and... well, screw (in the case of the livebearers) or spawn (in the case of egglayers).

you would think so right, idk its been almost 3 weeks with no results. i dont really have any more time to wait because i need results. But the sperm id going to get inside the female, im going to insert it with a fine tipped needle. well find out tomorrow if my female is pregnant, if not im going to start the insemination.

They may be pregnant, just not showing yet. Can you see a gravid spot just around the vent? If so, they are holding sperm.
