Im looking for ways to spice up my rtb cage.I want to give it a rain forest theme.SHOuld i use large artificial plants.I was thinking about getting a large clay pot with alot of holes for a hide. What do you guys think.I want whats best for it.Also would a clay pot burn my snake if its under a heat lamp.

yeah use large and small artificial plants, dunno about the clay pot, id just use an exo terra cave hide. small/meduim

Exo terra caves arent hides, really. If you already have a tight, dark, secure hide and want to waste 10 bucks and some tank space, go ahead.

If you want a 'rainforest theme', get that newspaper out. Try cypress mulch or Eco-Earth.

Don't get carried away. A lot of people throw out the necessities just to get something pretty.

Then what are they? 'Cause I may have to be phoning exo terra up, as it was sold to me as a hide ;)

They're fabulous hides. All my animals prefer these to tubs, rocks made into hides and things, for snakes, the medium ones are excellent as they have a small opening but a large inside so it makes them very secure. Thats coming from someone whos Royal chooses them over others ;) hehe

I think eco-earth mixed with sphagnum would be a great substrate for that. I can't recommend cypress mulch because while it's a good substrate, it's not a sustainable resource.

As far as live plants go, you might be able to get away with a nice Pothos vine that has its own pot, but as your snake gets larger, it will probably crush the plant. Said plant would be unhappy.

Are you talking about the MAGNET caves? THOSE are absolutely wonderful for leopard geckos and other small herps. I adore them, and they are way cool for guests to look at in a naturalistic setup. The ones I dislike are those cave/domes with the huge openings. The point of a HIDE is to HIDE! In those, they dont touch the top and you can see the animal at all times which severely stresses them out.

Imagine youre in the middle of the Serengeti and all you have to hide under is your kitchen table. Would you rather be in that or a bomb shelter?

I know he wants fake plants...I was just adding that. You know, for flare or something.
